Who says religion couldn’t unite? Who says the people of this world don’t love one another? Who says Mankind could not give and take under one banner? Who says peace could not find its territory in all your lovely and forgiving hearts, this season? Yes, it is again and again that time of the year when religious and nonreligious ones, under one belief, unite to commemorate Christmas. Considering its etymological definition, Christmas, of course, is a Christian feast. It is meant to commemorate the birth of Jesus. It is not an absolute celebration, rather a universal feast. Christ is the derivative of a Greek word Christos which is the equivalent of the Hebrew term “messiah”, which in turn means the “anointed One”. A better term and a more practical one may be the “savior”. Without a doubt the birth of an “anointed one” could and should be synonym of joy, symbol of happiness, emblem of love, and a statue of forgiveness. If the birth of our own children could bring happiness to us parents, and be celebrated yearly in joy, why shouldn’t and couldn’t the birth of Christ be commemorated?
